How Long Do Lenovo Laptops Last? Tips On Lenovo PC Brand’s Durability

How Long Do Lenovo Laptops Last

Most laptop users confuse price with performance and longevity. However, several factors such as battery life, the production materials, and others determine a laptop’s longevity.

Lenovo laptops have become popular because of their versatility, dependability, operational efficiency, affordability, and convenience. In addition, Lenovo provides innovative answers to challenges by providing high-end yet cheap gadgets.

However, are Lenovo laptops reliable? What factors influence the lifespan of Lenovo laptops? Are Lenovo laptops banned in the US? Does Lenovo steal data?

This article is loaded with many answers to these questions and many more.

But first, let’s answer the main question.

How Long Do Lenovo Laptops Last?

A typical Lenovo laptop is a low-cost laptop brand. Thus, most of their products are expected to last roughly three years. On the other hand, their mid-range and high-end products have a lifespan of 5-7 years on average.

However, these laptops have the possibility of 1-2 years, more or less depending on the parts (specs). As a result, high-end and newer computers, which are also more expensive, tend to last longer than the low-budget Lenovo brands.

What Factors Influence The Lifespan Of Lenovo Laptops?

Several factors influence how long a Lenovo laptop will last. However, you can extend your laptop’s lifespan if you consider the factors below.

Battery life:

One of the greatest mistakes you can make is charging your Lenovo laptops during the day while they are in use. Charging your laptop all day can significantly reduce battery life and shorten the laptop’s lifespan.

If you want to keep the battery in your Lenovo laptop in good shape, only use it when it’s necessary.

Extreme temperature:

High temperatures can create short circuits in Lenovo laptops. This Overheating can destroy your Lenovo laptops beyond repair. Therefore, try to keep the laptop at a lower temperature. You can also use a cooling pad as a partial solution.

Inferior hardware: The hardware, which consists of the CPU, monitor, keyboard, and touchpad, is the most common source of laptop damage. But the better the hardware the longer the laptop’s lifespan would be.

It’s a lot easier to repair if you damage the keyboard of Lenovo laptops. However, if the problem is with the CPU of a Lenovo laptop, there is no other option but to replace it.

Exposure to physical stress:

The more physical stress you subject your Lenovo to, the more likely the laptop breaks sooner than expected. If you frequently travel with your Lenovo laptop, it’ll have a lower life lifespan due to constant vibrations experienced in moving automobiles.

Task Density:

Lenovo laptops that perform heavy duties, such as encoding, emailing, and browsing, typically pack off sooner than those that perform simpler tasks.

Video creation and editing, and playing video games are tasks that need a lot of effort from computers. Lenovo laptops are likely to survive longer when you reduce their task loads. If you use them within limits, Lenovo laptops can last for five years.

Price Factor:

The quality and longevity of Lenovo laptops are directly related to their cost. The more expensive the Lenovo laptop, the longer its lifespan would be.

People with costly Lenovo laptops are often cautious because unexpected laptop damage might also result in budget damage.

How Long Does Lenovo Battery Last Per Charge?

After a full charge, Lenovo batteries can last up to 10 hours. They do eventually wear out, much like any Lithium-Ion battery. Rechargeable Lithium-Ion/Lithium-Polymer batteries have a finite lifespan.

They eventually lose their ability to maintain the original design capacity charge. As a result, the battery’s capacity depletes over time, reducing its run time.

After 12 to 18 months of constant use, the average user will notice a notable reduction in run time. When the battery run time no longer matches your expectations, Lenovo recommends buying a new Lenovo battery.

Can I Use My Lenovo Laptop While Charging?

Yes, you can! Even if the battery is completely charged, you can still use it while connected to the mains. In other words, when your battery is fully charged, it connects you to the mains power, and your battery stops charging.

Manufacturers now incorporate battery buffer controls on the circuits in newer Lenovo laptops. This buffer, together with power management software for Windows, prevents overcharging.

Lenovo laptops can route power. Thus, users can work on their laptops while plugging into the power grid.

Do Lenovo Laptops Come With Antivirus?

Lenovo laptops run the Microsoft Windows operating system, including Microsoft Defender Antivirus, an antivirus program.

Since they run on Windows, your Lenovo laptop should come with a pre-installed Windows Defender. However, the manufacturers installed a free version of McAfee on some older devices. Therefore, you might have a free version of McAfee if you have a Lenovo laptop from around 2015.The antivirus effectively detects hazards when you use it with a strong antimalware tool.

Are Lenovo Laptops Banned In The US?

After accusations that manufacturers built Lenovo laptops with hidden hardware or software used for cyberespionage, the US State Department banned Lenovo laptops from its secret networks in 2006.

A US Marine in Iraq testified in federal court in 2010 that many Lenovo laptops supplied to the US military had a chip encrypted on the motherboard. This chip would capture all the data entered into that laptop and send it back to China.

The US security team thought this was a major security breach since they weren’t sure how much data was copied.  Therefore, they had to disconnect all Lenovo systems from their security network.

The Homeland Security department issued a warning in 2015 concerning pre-installed malware on Lenovo PCs. Lenovo mobile devices might transfer hacked hardware into the DoD supply chain.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Directorate, this hacking may pose a cyber-security risk on classified and unclassified networks.

What Is Lenovo Superfish?

Superfish is a type of third-party software that can cause malware attacks on systems. However, Superfish is a software package installed directly by Lenovo in 2014.

Lenovo has been pre-installing the hidden software, labeled as Visual Discovery under Programs in Control Panel of Windows 8.1. Then, they install them on select laptops and PCs before distributing them to unaware clients.

Why Did Lenovo Use Superfish

Lenovo said Superfish was only available for a limited time from October to December. They used Superfish to allow customers to learn about new and fascinating products while shopping.

Lenovo created Superfish to assist customers in discovering new products by visually analyzing photos on the internet to identify the cheapest ones.

Is Lenovo Superfish Bad For Users?

Superfish operates by installing a false certificate on the user’s computer and using it to replace the encrypting certificates used by numerous websites, including Google, Facebook, any banking or online shopping site, and others.

As a result, the adware wants to covertly introduce more adverts onto secure HTTPS pages by bypassing the secure connection. In addition, Superfish may easily allow hackers to use its fake certificate and steal sensitive customer data.

Hackers can steal banking information, email, and phone numbers because the superfish software bypasses security servers.

As a result, if a user signs into their online banking account from a laptop that has Superfish installed, an attacker can steal their login credentials. An attacker can also read their emails and steal their credentials if they access emails.

How Can I Remove Lenovo Superfish?

Follow the steps below to uninstall Superfish if you’re using a Lenovo laptop and would love to protect your data from hackers.

Step 1: Uninstall the Superfish software.

You can find the Uninstall icon in the Windows Start menu or on the Start screen. Launch it and right-click on Superfish Incorporated VisualDiscovery to uninstall the software.

Step 2: Delete the certificate in Windows.

Search for Superfish certificate in the Windows Start menu or Start screen. Select Launch as Administrator from the context menu when you right-click it. Then, open certificates by clicking Trusted Root Certification Authorities.

Scroll down or use the find icon to find the Superfish, Inc. certificate. After that, select Delete from the context menu when you right-click it.

Step 3: Remove the Superfish certificate from Firefox.

First, go to Preferences/Options. Select Advanced, then Certificates from the drop-down menu. Then, select View Certificates from the drop-down menu.

If you find Superfish, click it and then select Delete or Distrust.

Step 4: Restart your browser and double-check.

Completely close or shut your Web browser(s). It would help if you also restart your computer at this stage.  Make sure you get a No this time when you load the test page in Firefox and Chrome/IE.

However, if your web browser warns you before allowing you to view the site, it means you’ve successfully removed Lenovo Superfish from your laptop.

Conclusion

Low-budget Lenovo laptops usually have a maximum lifespan of 3 years. On the other hand, high-end and newer Lenovo computers, which are also more expensive, tend to last longer.

The costly Lenovo laptops have a lifespan of 5-7 years on average, possibly 1-2 years more or less depending on the parts (specs).

However, other factors other than price can influence the longevity of a Lenovo laptop. For example, factors such as battery life, task density, exposure to physical stress, and extreme temperature can increase or extend the lifespan of Lenovo laptops.
