How to Connect Onn Soundbar to TV

Onn soundbar is the ideal way to boost your audio sounds. It can even stream your audio from any Bluetooth-enabled device with ease. It comes in varieties of sizes, including the 30″ and 32″ that can boost your audio sounds with 120W and 160W peak audio powers, respectively. Aside from wireless connectivity, you can also connect this sound booster via AUX and optical cables. This means you can connect the device to your TV or radio even when they are not Bluetooth-enabled.

So, how do You Connect Onn Soundbar to TV?

You can connect your Onn Soundbar to a TV with a 3.5mm to RCA stereo audio cable that can be plugged into the TV audio output port. This must be connected to the Onn soundbar AUX-IN port.

What Are The Components Of Onn Soundbar?

Onn Soundbar comes with an in-built sub-woofer for richer bass. The 30″, 120W, 2.0 channel soundbar with Bluetooth comes in black color. The device comes with the following features;

Connecting Onn Soundbar – Your Options

The following are some of the ways through which you can connect your Onn soundbar to your TV or any other device.

1. HDMI In and HDMI Arc Connection

The HDMI cable is not included. Hence you need to purchase this separately. The HDMI cable can be used to connect your TV’s HDMI OUT port to the HDMI IN port of the soundbar. In some cases, the HDMI cable included should be around 1.7m in length.

To connect the TV’s HDMI Arc, use the HDMI-to-HDMI cable (Arc) port, and this can be connected directly to the soundbar’s HDMI Arc port.

2. The AUX or Optical Connection

Use a 3.5mm to RCA stereo audio cable to connect your TV’s audio output port to the soundbar’s AUX input port. Keep in mind that the 3.5mm stereo audio cable is not supplied in the pack.

You may also use the optical cable to connect the TV’s optical output port to the soundbar’s optical OUT port. The optical cable for this connection is included in the package.

The Bluetooth And 5.1 System Connection

Aside from the cable connections, you can also connect your Onn Soundbar with Bluetooth-enabled devices like your smartphone and portable computers.

To connect via your Bluetooth, power on your soundbar by pressing the power source button. Press the Bluetooth button on the remote control and the Bluetooth ID: Onn 36″ 5.1 soundbars. This should take you to Bluetooth pairing mode. This will cause the blue LED indicator light to flash, and this indicates that the connection has been established with the other device.

1. Pairing Your Subwoofer

You can pair your subwoofer manually. To do this, press down the mute on the remote control for 7 seconds and then long-press the pairing sub-woofer for about 3s. You will see the LED indicator light and the sub-woofer’s mixed colors of red and blue flash until they pair with each other. The LED indicator light will remain solid bright once the pairing is completed.

If the subwoofer has been paired with the soundbar from the factory setting, then they will automatically pair.

2. Using Your Bluetooth Connection

To use your Bluetooth connection on the soundbar with a connected device, press the power on button on the soundbar or remote to switch on, or use the voice prompt. Make sure the distance between the soundbar and your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or other portable device is less than a meter. The closer the devices, the better.

Ensure the Bluetooth on your device is already switched on the device can be easily discovered. Select the Bluetooth mode on your soundbar by pressing the Bluetooth on the remote control. The indicator light on the soundbar should flash blue light once the Bluetooth is on. Alternatively, you can press the source button on the soundbar until the indicator light flashes blue.  

Select the Bluetooth flash on your portable device, and let it discover the “Onn 36” 5.1 soundbars. Select the pairing mode once the soundbar Bluetooth is discovered. You can do this by pressing and holding down the Bluetooth button for about 3 seconds until the blue light indicator flashes slowly.

Alternatively, you can press and hold the source button on the soundbar for 3 seconds until the blue light indicator flashes slowly. Choose the Bluetooth search option on your device, and it should discover the 36″ 5.1 Soundbar device immediately. Select the 36″ 5.1 soundbars once the flashing blue light indicator has turned solid.

Connecting Your Onn Soundbar To Electrical Outlet

The Onn soundbar comes with an AC connectivity option. Connect the AC IN port to the power outlet through the power cable. Ensure all your audio connections are connected before you connect the device to the mains power outlet.

1. Mounting Your Onn Soundbar on the Wall – Preparing for Installation

Mounting your Onn Soundbar on the wall should be straightforward if you follow simple procedures. Begin the process by drilling two parallel holes (about 100mm each according to the type of well) on the wall. The distance between the holes should be about 58mm.

You may want to consult a professional installer to handle this installation. Installing your soundbar incorrectly can result in serious personal injuries or damage to your device. You must have a knowledge of wiring installations and even plumbing within the walls that can affect your installation. You must understand that your wall must be stable enough to handle Onn soundbar installation. It is also important that you have all the tools ready before you commence installation.

Do not over-tighten the screws of the device to the wall. Keep the instructional manual at hand as a guide. You can use the electronic stud finder to identify your wall type before drilling and mounting.

2. Product Wall Mounting – Other Steps

The next step is to fix firmly the dowel that measures 10.2 x 30mm in diameter and length into each hole before you proceed. Solid walls like solid brick or solid concrete, or solid wood or solid wood battens are the best for wall-mounting of Onn soundbar. Walls like plaster walls, drywall, and lath walls may not be ideal for mounting the soundbar.

Insert a screw TA 9.4mm (this is not included in the package) into each of the anchors. Leave about a 6mm gap between the wall and the screw head. Lift the soundbar unit over the screw’s head before slotting it into place.

Common Issues With Onn Soundbar And Fixing Them

There are a wide range of issues that can affect the soundbar, and these are the commonest ones and their possible solutions;

1. Soundbar Turns Off while the Sound is Still Playing

If there is an issue with your soundbar turning off at a certain time, you should check the energy-saving settings.

Soundbars do shut down after a while in a bid to conserve power when not in use. Sound soundbars can be more sensitive than others, especially to sound volume. You may want to adjust the volume of the soundbar or change the power settings to avoid shutting down.

2. The soundbar is Sounding, Not Better than the TV Sound

There are some top-end soundbars that don’t sound better than the TV. In most cases, the connection between the soundbar and the device may be faulty; hence that should be your first point of call. Sometimes soundbar may not be playing the sound at all while the TV speakers are still working.

The RCA cable connected to the soundbar must be checked, so also is the digital optics and HDMI cables. Check to see that the connections are tight. You may want to check the manual and see if cables are directly attached properly.
