One of the best selling books on the market today is the Palo Alto Networks system engineering book. It is the book I refer to when people ask me what the best books on network engineering are. One of my customers used it as a reference for the PMP exam he was preparing for. I like the style of the book, and it helped me with his exam preparation because of the careful planning and presented information.

The main topic of this text is System Engineering. In particular, there are three major sections: System Design and Planning; Hardware and Software Development and Implementation, and Training and Education or Support. The exams offered by PaloAlto Networks are very detailed and technical, and if you are ready for that level of detail, this is not the right book for you.
However, if you already know the basics of networking and how a system works and have taken a PSE-STRATA PaloAlto Networks exam, this book will get you pointed in the right direction. If you do not have the time or knowledge to learn a system from scratch, this is an excellent choice to teach you the design basics.
By gaining a deeper understanding of how these systems work, you will better understand what goes on inside a network.
